TIME

Edinburgh Time Zone is set on GMT - Greenwich Mean Time.

CURRENCY/EXCHANGE

The most common banknotes are £5, £10, £20, £50 and £100.
The coins in circulation are 1p, 2p, 5p, 10p, 20p, 50p and £1 and £2.
In Scotland Sterling banknotes issued both by the Bank of England and Scottish banknotes are used. Scottish banknotes will always be accepted in Scotland, but in some parts of the UK they are not as easily accepted. Therefore we recommend that Scottish banknotes are used as much as possible while in Scotland and reserve the Bank of England pounds if you are planning to visit the rest of Britain.

CREDIT CARDS

All major credit cards are accepted in most hotels, restaurants and shops.

BANKS

Standard banking hours are Monday to Friday from 9:00 - 9:30 until 15:30 - 16:00.

ELECTRICITY

In Scotland power plugs and sockets are of type G. The standard voltage is 230 V and the standard frequency is 50 Hz.

WEATHER

The overall average daily temperature in June is a pleasant 13°C (55 F). Mornings and overnight, of course, are still the coldest parts of the day with average low temperatures falling to 9°C (48 F). However, afternoon temperatures will rebound nicely and eventually climb to 17 °C (63 F).

VISAS

EU Members may travel to the UK with no visa requirements. Citizens from the USA, South Africa, Australia or New Zealand do not require a visa to visit the UK.
Citizens from other countries require a visa which can be obtained from their nearest British Consular office. See HERE

SHOPPING

Most shops in Edinburgh open six days a week from 09.00 to 18.00.
On Sunday, stores have shorter opening hours, usually from 11.00 to 17.00.
Souvenir shops on Princes Street and on the Royal Mile are opened generally until
20.00 every day.

MUSEUMS

Most museums in Edinburgh open from 10.00 to 17.00 five or six days a week and some remain open until 19.30 on Thursdays. We suggest you to check the opening times of the individual museums before visiting.

BARS, PUBS AND RESTAURANTS

The Scots usually eat quite early; therefore, if you want to have dinner later than 21.00, we suggest heading to more touristy restaurants.
Pubs are generally open seven days a week from 11.00 to 23.00 or midnight.
